Top spots to elope in Tasmania
Tasmania = Perfection.
In our opinion, one of the most underrated locations in Australia. Once you come here, the quietness, the nature, the fresh air will have you hooked. An elopement here is special, the diversity and beauty of the island is vast, meaning there is something to suit just about any micro wedding or elopement vision.
The attraction of coming here versus heading overseas is the flight time from Melbourne is only 45 minutes (to Launceston) and most locations are a relatively short (by Aussie standards) drive away. To elope here then take an extended break for your honeymoon to explore afterwards is magical. To add to this, the island produces amazing wine, paddock to plate food, seafood on the coastal area’s (hello oysters and Tasmanian Salmon).
The list of locations below is in no order or importance, in fact some of the more popular Tassie spots we would recommend alternatives based on our experience and knowledge of conducting elopements in the area.
Cradle Mountain
One of the more popular requests from our couples is to elope here. Yes, its is stunning, however there is a bunch of logistics that need to be considered to have your elopement in this location. Cradle Mountain is a National Park featuring a number of beautiful locations. There are 5 locations within the park that you can book for your ceremony. This has to be booked and arranged prior and a permit paid to marry here, this can be arranged by us with one of our inclusive Tasmania elopement packages.
Like most beautiful natural locations there is a bit of walking required to get to the spot for your ceremony so heels are a no no, walking/hiking boots under dresses and suits are suggested. The weather here can change quickly, and the average temp here is 12 degrees, the best months to visit for dry warmer weather are the bridging months of Oct/Nov or March/April (Dec/Jan/Feb is peak tourist season and hugely busy).
Taking all this into account the location is gorgeous and really diverse featuring rainforests to mountain peaks and snow in winter. One walking track here it is super common to see wombats foraging through the daytime.
Our recommendation is to choose your ceremony spot (with our local guidance) then walk/shuttle bus and adventure further to get your photos with a view afterwards and explore some of the beautiful spots in the park. If an easily accessible location with an epic view is more your preference we would recommend looking at the Blue Mountains area instead.
Freycinet National Park + Bay of Fires
Stunning coastline, red blushed rocks, not very many tourists. So many options here for your elopement or micro wedding with a view. There is a beach option in this area that is truly stunning with the whitest sands and bluest seas and those red tinged rocks, which in our opinion rivals the more popular tourist destination of Wine glass bay in Freycinet national park. Hiking can be avoided to access this location, and there is a bevvy of air bnb options to stay after your miro wedding and plenty tio dicsover in the area for your honeymoon afterwards.
Mt Field National Park
Not mentioned much in the elopement guides out there this location is an awesome option just 1 hours drive inland from Hobart for an elopement in nature without having to travel too far. Stunning Russell Falls makes for a lovely backdrop of photos, after your riverside elopement. Or, choose to elope amongst the tall trees walk and then head to Russell Falls afterwards for photos. Like all National park locations in Tasmania a permit is required, which we look after for you.
Lake St Claire - Pumphouse Point
This location is truly special, there are accommodation options onsite with a fully inclusive food and beverage package for your stay. Photos onsite with the stunning lake and forest surrounding make for a beautiful elopement location. We recommend this location suits elopements for just the two of you, and to avoid eloping here in the winter months as access for the team to travel here can be cut off with inclement snowy type weather. This location places you right in the middle of Tassie so choose your own adventure afterwards by heading West, North or East with gorgeous scenic drives in all directions the drive in here is
Captains Rest - Strahan - West Coast Tasmania
Right on the stunning West Coast sits the iconic and renowned Captains Rest, one of the most in demand and successful air bnb locations in Australia. Couples only elopements for this gorgeous location by the sea. The imagery says it all, a bespoke location of moody ‘beach shack’ by the sea, gorgeously styled by Air Bnb master and author Sarah Andrews.
Tassie Farm Retreat - North West Tasmania
Farm stay anyone? This location is such a perfect spot to have your elopement or micro wedding.
With various accommodation options onsite, and the ability to bring along your friends and family, PLUS an amazing view of Mount Roland, we cannot recommend this space enough. After you have waved goodbye to your elopement team you can have a private chef come and cook you a meal by the fire, or organise a private massage therapist to come in, along with outdoor baths and all that fresh air we keep talking about. Eagles Nest retreat elopements and micro weddings are amazing, and a great other option to having your micro wedding or elopement with a view without having to travel as far as Cradle Mountain and with a lot less logistics to care about.
Launceston - Northern Tasmania
Cataract Gorge and City park, two great elopement locations in the heart of Launceston. Cataract Gorge can be busy with Tourists but the chair lift is a fun addition to your elopement or micro wedding and the Alexandra Suspension bridge makes for fun photos as well. The gorge has restaurants onsite that make great options for a celebration lunch afterwards and there is plenty of scope for photos. The park looks gorgeous in Autumn and a bit quieter than the Summer months. As it is a popular place for tourists visiting Launceston, midweek elopements and micro weddings are strongly suggested at this location. City Park is another pretty location for a park elopement in Launceston with the beautiful conservatory building and plenty of greenery around for photos.
Bruny Island - South East Tasmania
Ruggedly beautiful, Bruny Island presents a stunning spot to say your I’do and combine your trip with an island stay before heading back to the main land of Tassie via ferry and discovering Hobart and all the amazing interesting space the south Coast are of Tasmania presents. Explore ancient paths and stunning coasts. A Bruny Island elopement can’t be left off this list as a truly unique spot to get married. Keep in mind this is Southern Tasmania, it’s very chilly in Winter and thats fine if it’s your thing, otherwise stick to the warmer months to have your Bruny Island Elopement.
